Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist in Arizona

Some States have a high rate of uninsured drivers. Of those States, Arizona is well known for uninsured and underinsured drivers. To begin the State Minimum requirement in Arizona is 15/30/10 which makes any Driver, covered with only the state minimum requirement, potentially underinsured.

The State only requires 15/30 limits for bodily injury. $15,000 for one person’s injuries or $30,000 for all injuries will only go so far if a serious accident occurs. If you are concerned with the other Driver’s insurance status, for a few more bucks a month you can add uninsured and underinsured motorist to your policy. This coverage will come in as excess coverage once the other Driver’s liability is depleted. So lets say someone rear-ends you causing major bodily injury to your neck. Let’s also say they only have the Arizona State Minimum Requirement. If your loss comes out to $20,000 your loss will be covered by both the driver’s insurance and your underinsured motorist coverage. If the driver had no insurance, your insurance would kick in up to your policy limits.

How about your Vehicle?

If any driver covered with $10,000 of property damage liability totals a newer vehicle, they will probably not have enough coverage to handle the damages. If you own a newer car in Arizona it’s best to have it also covered with collision and comprehensive coverage.
